CRCL Tree Nursery Planting & Oyster Shell Recycling Volunteer Event 12.10.22

Cypress Tree Nursery Planting & Oyster Shell Recycling Event

CRCL Restoration Headquarters - Violet, LA

Saturday, December 10, 2022

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) is excited to have you join us in Violet, LA! Launched in June 2014, CRCL’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program recycles shell from participating New Orleans-based restaurants and uses that shell to restore oyster reefs and shoreline habitat across Coastal Louisiana. As a volunteer, you will help prepare the shell for future restoration. Volunteers will place the recycled shell into bags that will later be transported to oyster reef restoration sites. Volunteers will also help clean up our shell pile and remove trash and plastics as we bag. By helping prep the shell, volunteers will play a role in creating a new oyster reef that will allow for the growth of new oysters, create new fish habitat, and act as a wave break which will knock down storm surge and allow new land to build up behind the reef.

In addition to bagging oyster shells with the OSRP, volunteers will also be planting seeds in our brand-new cypress tree nursery through our Native Plants Program. Founded in 2000, CRCL’s Native Plants Program (NPP), formerly known as the Habitat Restoration Program, leads our efforts to restore Louisiana’s coastal habitats by engaging volunteers and stakeholders to be a part of the solution through tree and grass plantings. In the Spring of 2022, volunteers constructed nursery beds to grow cypress trees, and now that it is Winter, the beds are ready for seeds!

I assume all known and unknown risk and responsibility for any injury, harm, or loss which I may sustain in connection with my participation in the Activities. I hereby represent and agree that: (1) I understand there are a variety of foreseen and unforeseen dangers, safety hazards and risks inherent in outdoor field activities, which include but are not limited to loss of life, personal injury, and loss or damage to personal belongings due to wind; waves; weather events and conditions; sudden and unexpected immersion in deep waters; collision with other watercraft or stationary objects such as docks, pilings, and buoys; interaction with wildlife, including venomous snakes and alligators; insect-induced injuries, diseases, or allergic reactions; infection or contagion; accidents from use or operation of tools and equipment by myself or others; lifting or moving heavy objects; challenging and unmaintained environments, and limited access to emergency services. (2) I have been informed of the prerequisite skill level required for the Activities. I understand and agree that I alone am responsible to determine whether I am physically and mentally fit to participate in the Activities and that I am not relying on any advice from CRCL in this regard. (4) I will conduct myself in a safe and prudent manner while participating in the Activities; will comply with all applicable policies and procedures, training, and safety rules provided; and will follow all instructions in carrying out the Activities.

I hereby absolve and hold harmless the Released Parties from any damage I may sustain because of any breach of these representations.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS RELEASE DISCHARGES CRCL AND OTHER RELEASED PARTIES FROM ANY LIABILITY OR CLAIM THAT I MAY HAVE AGAINST THEM WITH RESPECT TO ANY PERSONAL INJURY, ILLNESS, DEATH, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OR LOSS THAT MAY ARISE FROM THE ACTIVITIES, WHETHER CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF CRCL AND OTHER RELEASED PARTIES OR OTHERWISE.

Indemnification.
